Because I love pesky questions... how exactly do you measure a bowstring? I gather that it needs to be tense but do you measure it from tip to toe or is it from the "inside" of the loops?
Anyone?

I would answer the questions... but tbh i don't actually know the answer...
actaully thinking about it, (seeing strings being made) i'm fairly sure that the length is the full length from middle of loop to middle of loop...
What do you want to know for?

Also ... a 68" bowstring will be a different lengths depending on what bow it wants to go on... Hoyt risers (the eclipse at least) require a slightly longer string than win and win bows for instance...

I'll browse the board whenever I want, thank you very much.
I got a traditional bow a few weeks ago, just to see Ed ranting about it... wait for it, it's going to be fantastic. The string is not very good though so I'm getting a replacement, the full measure is 54" which is a 'normal' measure of sorts. The problem seems to be that the loops are massive (about 4" each) and that confuses me quite a bit.

The club has string jigs.
Get someone to teach you how to make a new one.
Means it ends up the right length, rather than "close".

I think not...
Ivan, I expect your best bet is to take it to aardvark and ask them to make a string for it. They did it with my 72" limbs. Lez will be reasonably happy to make more than one in order to get it right, as he did for mine.

Thanks for the help guys!
I'm pretty sure we don't have any jigs, unless it's hidden away in the container. I know Lotty has one but I believe she doesn't have it here. Aardvark sound like a good idea, I also need to get arrows and I believe there was interest last term for a trip there. Anyone with a car volunteering? we can always take any freshers who want to get a bow and stuff, it's about that time of the year.

yes, i can take people next term (if you're nice, i might even do it in the first week)
the other possibility is Smug's string jigs are infact the club ones...
