Shooting a long bow is different, yet at the same time, quite similar, to shooting a recurve. Two of our coaches have a lot of experience with long bows, both shooting and coaching, so do feel free to come along to a session when they are their and pick their brains about it.

i want to start shooting long bow, and i guess it is quite different than recurve. how do i practice without a long bow, or should i buy one first? Hi, I'm not actually a member of YUAC (prospective chemistry candidate 2010) yet but I have got about 14 years experience with archery and in September I will get my level 1 coach! My whole family shoots recurve, longbow and most shoot compound (but I cant find a lefty). If i can offer assistance, I would love to help. try to find someone that has a longbow, as local clubs (i.e. outside uni) as you will either love it or hate it. I wouldn't advise getting 1 just yet as a decent 1 will set you back £200 (if you are lucky). Basically, you don't/shouldn't hold a longbow. Keep everything else the same (if you T-draw) and in one smooth movement pull back. As soon as you hit your chin release. It takes some getting used to!
