Just a word of warning in adavnce....ive just returned from a heated discussion with majority of the new committee. They are going to refuse to shoot on the range next year. they are going to say it has to be shot on grass, if not on the roses weekend then the weekend before or as a reverse fixture. Obviously i doubt any plans have been made as of yet, this is me passing on a warning. I looks like they will kick up fuss about this they complaining about the concrete blocks (which could be padded out to prevent causeing too much damage). there main concern is its psychollically damagin to their novices, which personnal i can sort of understand but its no way to base an out right refusal. Bare in mind the new captain has never been to the york range. This whole thread might not be relavant, but as usual having a whole team arguing agaisnt me about not using a perfectly legal range just because its gravel really annoyed me.

Thanks for letting us know, Matt.
I hope you told them that the solution is simple - just don't miss.

It's not the best of ranges, and they'll be prepared to go to extreme lengths just to get some lovely grass!
I know that cricket and rowing fixtures were held prior to the actual Roses weekend, and such an arrangement may be necessary to acquire a field that isn't being taken up by rugby/football players.

Simple solution, if the Lancastrians don't want concrete blocks we'll remove the blocks from the targets they're shooting at. Problem solved.

Thanks for letting us know Matt.
I think NEUAL this weekend should give us ample time for a discussion about this, I imagine that most of the Lanc committee will be there. If need be, we can always take them up to the range to show them exactly what it's like.
In terms of what I think about this situation, whilst our range is legal, it is far from ideal and I can understand their reservations. For a very early competition in the outdoor season, novices will be missing, and lets face it, our range isn't kind to arrows...
As I say though, I think a discussion about this after NEUAL will be the best way to handle this.

I'm sure that there is a problem with that, not sure what though.... Hmmm... is this a cunningly disguised attempt to ensure they get all the points next year? Yes, the blocks are an issue. but they only come into play when a shot drops low from gold/red - anything else skitters off into the distance (which is a different issue...). Whilst there are normally spaces available on 22 acres on the Sunday, there are issues - I don't believe it's a good idea to be near other sports - spectators have a tendency to wander, and overshoots are there for a reason. Logistically it would be a nightmare too - I doubt we'd be allowed to fill the pavilion with bosses, the ent's van would be busy sorting the roses ball, and do we really want to shift the bosses twice in two weekends? I suppose we could always offer to extract results from NEUAL...
