So, it's Saturday evening and I'm a tiny little bit bored. Also putting off writing my essay. Anyway! Having noticed that a suspicious number of archers seem to be wearing band tee shirts (yes, I mean you, Tim. And Ed.) I was just wondering what your favourite albums are? You know, the ones you simply put on and then proceed to listen to for an entire week? Or month? The ones you'd possibly spend twenty quid on if there was no other way of getting them cheaper? Just to start things off, here's my list: 1) Stars - In Our Bedroom After the War The whole album is excellent but there's one song on there ('The Night Starts Here') that is sheer brilliance. It's perfect for doing work and I love the fact that the band have got a male and a femal singer because their voices fit together beautifully. 2) Jeff Buckley - Grace Because... Well, it's Jeff Buckley, does there need to be a reason? This is the perfect album for when you're a bit depressed because it's emo!, but in a good way. Also, his version of 'Hallelujah' is possibly one of the best songs ever done. 3) Placebo - Black Market Music If I was ever obsessed about a band it must have been Placebo. They're the only band I've ever since play live twice (although the second time was sort of an accident...). Black Market Music was the first album by them that I bought, back when I still thought that Brian Molko was a girl - I'd seen the video for 'Slave to the Wage' and thought he was quite pretty! 4) Depeche Mode - Ultra I can't really think of a reason for that one, except that I was seventeen, trying to be depressed and failing. Too damn cheerful, that's me. But it's still a good album! ... What about you then?

A lot of the albums I own are compilations or Greatest Hits, but I have some particular favorites. In no particular order. The Answer - RiseMix the vocals of Robert Plant with the classic rock melodies of Whitesnake, throw in some deep southern blues sounds, and you have The Answer. The Answer - Come Follow MeBon Jovi - CrossroadsYes, I know it's a "best of" album, but it's Bon Jovi's finest. Boston - Third StageThis album doesn't sum up Boston, it is Boston. Telling the story (in a very loose way) of a spaceship journey to the stars, it has classic rock, ballads and instrumentals perfectly combined. Supersuckers - Live At The Magic BagThe self-proclaimed "greatest rock n' roll band in the world" with an awesome live album. No holds barred, no nonsense, rock and roll. Supersuckers - Rock n' Roll Records (Ain't Selling This Year)Dropkick Murphys - BlackoutPunk with a Celtic twist (punk version of Fields of Athenry, anyone?). Dropkick Murphys - Walk Away

Hey, me too! me too! Cold fairyland - Bride in legendShanghai based progressive rock band with traditional chinese instruments. If you don't start jumping around after you heard "The Flood" there is something wrong with you. www.purevolume.com/coldfairylandExplosions in the sky - How strange, InnocenceBasically the best post-rock band ever. It's instrumental music so don't listen to it if you have a short attention span = ) by the way, is anyone going to the January concerts? youtube.com/watch?v=dhc2RMJp1c8The Decemberists - The Crane WifeIndie-folk-pop with weird Shakespearean references and strange archaic words. They basically are a mash up of Rush with Bob Dylan. www.myspace.com/thedecemberistsYay! my favourite albums ^_^

Yay excellent!. If you like the literate guitar-based tunes with strange themes I recommend you listen to Picaresque. It's sheer goodness. Oh, and I listened to Stars and they sound really good! I liked "the night starts here" in particular.

Oh yes, 'The Night Starts Here' is gorgeous. *sighs happily*
And I'm always happy to find new music so I'll definitely give them a go!

Minimal snarkage about spelling on the board, please! Today's music: Metallica, S&M. Few tracks are fantastic - Outlaw Torn, No Leaf Clover, and Bleeding Me. The Green Hell/Battery one they close on is pretty funny too. Otherwise: Freedom Call - Dimensions, Dragonforce - Fire and Flames.

It's like being in 1930s Germany around here. Besides, Bx knows I'm only joking.
Anyway, now it resembles one of Tim's standard messages. I blame all that mathematical swapping letters around malarkey... Algebra, that's the word.
Metallica S&M is always fantastic, and I would have to agree with Outlaw Torn and No Leaf Clover. The version of Enter Sandman is amazing too. We all know, having listened to that song, that violins were only invented as the perfect accompaniment to the electric guitar...

Goodness me. I've been thinking this one over for a long time... my tastes in music are also rather eclectic. Having just bought Guitar Hero III and been thoroughly disappointed in the lack of cool songs on it (though Lacuna Coil does feature, which makes me happy; and the one Dragonforce song I really like (Through the Fire and Flames) is unlocked for the credits) Let's see, in no particular order; Air - Alanis Morissette - Apocalyptica - The Cure - Depeche Mode - Dixie Chicks - Enya - Evanescence - The Fray - Garbage - Gogol Bordello - H.I.M. - Imogen Heap - lots of J-Pop - Keane - Kerfuffle - Kosheen - KT Tunstall - Lacuna Coil - Matchbox Twenty - Massive Attack - Pendulum - Placebo - The Prodigy - Radiohead - Sheryl Crow - Sisters of Mercy - Snow Patrol - Vanessa Mae I think that covers my most favourite artists. I have others in my collection that I deemed not important enough to mention, as the list is huge as it is. Fear the eclecticity. EDIT: I realise this is supposed to be a list of albums, but I don't work in albums, I work in artists, it's easier - plus if I listed albums we'd be here until next summer.

I suppose I could make a relevant reply to this thread. I think Raph is right to go with artists not albums, so here goes:
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Leonard Cohen Bob Dylan Nick Drake Johnny Cash The Doors Pink Floyd Iron Maiden Metallica Rammstein
Those are the current favourites, although my music taste doesn't evolve particularly rapidly.
(This can be seen by the fact that Ed liked Iron Maiden when they first came out.... and still does... he evolves as quickly as a crocodile)
